Mera Pind

Sidhu is all set to debut in a film titled Mera Pind. When we spoke to

him the ever enthusiastic star was all excited about the film. He

reveals,"We begin shooting in five days. The film is being directed by

none other than Yash Chopra's former assistant Manmohan Singh. The

entire film will be shot in Punjab."

And what will this film be all about? "The film is about an NRI who

transforms an entire village and transforms their attitude."

Directed by: Manmohan Singh

Cast: Harbhajan Mann, Navjot Singh Siddhu, Kimi Verma, Sarabjit Mangat, Deep Dhillon, Navneet Nishaan, Sheeba Bhakri, Rana Ranbir, Gurpreet Ghuggi and Darshan Aulakh

Navjot Singh Sidhu is a rich, fun-loving guy who grew up in the west. He has now returned to his homeland where he is happily settled in a small village in Punjab. The lives of the village youths, led by Harbhajan Mann, are transformed by Sidhu's simple, enterprising initiatives.

As time goes by, the village is transformed into a sparkling hamlet that in fact becomes a model for nearby villages. Mera Pind (meaning my home) is a thought-provoking, Punjabi movie depicting the challenges and circumstances of individuals living in a small village.

Harbhajan Mann in Mera Pind

The movie has a strong underlying message, showcasing the importance of being an entrepreneur in your own land, rather than taking skills and qualities abroad. The film portrays Punjabis living abroad as hardworking and successful people in the eyes of their fellow citizens back in Punjab.

Successful and globally popular Punjabi singer and actor Harbhajan plays the lead role in this film. He is ably supported by Kimi Varma, a familiar face in Punjabi cinema.

Like most Manmohan Singh movies, Mera Pind also has a perfect mix of romance, family bonding and a strong musical score. As a director, Manmohan Singh, has many box office hits to his credit including Mitti Wajaan Maardi, Asaan Nu Maan Watnaan Da, Jee Aayaan Nu, Yaaran Naal Baharaan and Dil Apna Punjabi.

He is also an award winning cinematographer and has worked on Bollywood movies like Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai and Mohabbatein.

Shoot on Sight

Rating: 2.5/5

Starring: Naseeruddin Shah, Brian Cox, Greta Scacchi, Om Puri, Laila Rouass and Gulshan Grover

Director: Jagmohan Mundhra

Plot
Shoot on Sight, the title refers to a contentious, post-9/11 British law-enforcement policy, doesn't make pulses pound in the tradition of a big Hollywood police thriller but instead focuses on the human story and that's what is more commendable.
Tariq Ali (Naseer) is a Muslim police officer at Scotland Yard Commander. Ali, born in Pakistan, is married to an English woman, Susan (Greta Scacchi) and with two kids, is tasked to investigate the police shooting of a suspected Muslim terrorist on the London Underground. Distrusted by both his British superiors in the London police, and his fellow Muslims, he finds his inquiry hampered from all sides. When evidence surfaces pointing to the slain man's innocence, as well as the existence of a terrorist cell operating in his own backyard, Tariq must faces the realization that sometimes the right decision is the hardest one to make.
Shoot On Sight is based on the aftermath of the infamous 7/7 bombings in London and the killing of Jean Charles De Menezes on the London Underground. Carl Austin's screenplay does proper justice to the subject by showing view points of both the sides aptly. The family interplay surrounding Tariq and his clash of values with Westerners, and his patient but increasingly torn wife, played by Greta Scacchi, who is an outsider to their culture trying to blend in has come out superbly. The film appears a sincerely decent effort by Jagmohan Mundhra whose last film was the Aishwarya Rai starrer Provoked. What actually make the film interesting are the performances by Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri who plays the fanatic preacher and dangerous Jihadist Junaid. Greta Scacchi and Brian Cox also lend able support. Gulshan Grover and the beautiful Laila Rouass impress in their cameos.
Handsomely shot, the film strives to be multifaceted without quite reaching the moral and ethical complexities it tries to grasp. At a running time of 1 hour 50 minute it makes for a good one time watch.

Danny Denzongpa ... Kabira / Kabir Chacha

Plot

The film is a remake of "Karz" which starred: Rishi Kapoor, Simi Garewal and Tina Munim. This film might be different than the old one. The film is planned to be released in October 2008. The plot could possibly be quite similar to Farah Khan's "Om Shanti Om", which was also based on Karz. Urmila Matondkar is all set to reprise the role of Kamini played by Simi Garewal in the original Karz. It is learnt that Urmilas Kamini will be more glamourous than the one we saw in the original. Urmila is all set to do a special dance number in the film called Tandoori Nights. Its not an item song but something more spectacular than that.

Her mother tells her to stay within limits and arrive home in time. She is reluctant to abide by the rule and after much negotiation demands that she would listen to everything if she gets to meet her father. Then she leaves home and goes swimming in the sea to vent out. Far into the sea, she vanishes underwater.
She wakes up in the evening in a cottage which has no exit. At first she doesn't believe that she has been kidnapped and thinks that her friends are playing a prank on her. The abductor Kabir (Imran Khan) tells her how she came there. When she went swimming in the open sea, he pulled her below the water surface and knocked her unconscious using a bottled chloroform.
On the other hand, everyone is worried at her home. Next morning, her mother receives a call from Kabir wherein he says that he is interested in speaking to her father, Vikrant Raina (Sanjay Dutt), a New York based Indian business tycoon, with whom he has an old score to settle.

On the other hand its hard to believe for Sonia that she has been kidnapped. Initially Kabir is good with her but when she tries to stab Kabir he ties her up.
He survives and takes her to the known cottage. She soon realizes that this house is old cottage. Kabir tells her that when he was a kid he was accused of kidnapping Sonia by Raina when he was trying to save his friend who had fallen from a ladder by borrowing Raina's car which was known to him. One day when he calls no one picks up. He decides to pay a visit there but is detected by Raina and Irfan. He looses Raina but lets him meet his daughter. He tells him to remove Irfan and that he has to flee a prisoner next. Raina does it and follows Kabir. But Irfan attacks Kabir and Raina looses his trail.
